Chicago’s very own producer and community activist William Andre Buchanan also known as Dre Buchanan & Orlando artist, writer and now film producer Ray Jenkins launched a crowd funding project titled The Dobermans- Genesis, Sunday through Kick-starter, the online crowdfund platform. The project is on track to raise $125,000.00 in development money to spur the production of a multi-million-dollar 3D animated feature film called The Dobermans. The campaign has already raised $30,000 within the first few weeks of launch. Jenkins, the creator, is joined in this effort by long time business partner and fellow producer William Andre Buchanan. Buchanan brings the full resources of his company, ILL 4 Real Entertainment and partners with Jenkins in his film company, Ram-Z Entertainment.
Their first feature film, The Dobermans, features legendary film star Ed Asner, star of Disney’s animated film Up, Dawnn Lewis, who voiced characters in movies such as Inside Out, Monsters University, The Simpsons and the Boondocks. Jen Rudin, casting director for The Incredibles, The Princess and the Frog, and Free Birds, is also on board. Motion capture basketball sequences will be performed by some NBA players and headed up by Street Basketball legend and actor Luis Da Silva Jr. The project will be fully cast once the crowdfund campaign reaches climax.
The Dobermans is about Silky Slim, a college basketball star in an imaginary dog and cat world. Silky’s dream to play for the best professional team in the league becomes a nightmare when he’s drafted to the worse team in the league, the Dobermans. There, Silky struggles to gain the respect of his teammates, win the heart of his former classmate, carry his team to the finals and beat a crime boss at his own game.
